Engineer ethos in modern society. Part III. Influence of social and religious politics on promotion of engineer ethos in European culture

Summary: Insufficient friendliness and frequent lack of consistent support of some political, cultural, and religious elites in the effort of various educational institutions and professional organizations directed towards promotion of engineer ethos has been indicated. Significant harmfulness of actions taken by some political elites and religious sects aimed to undo or limit development of modern technical civilization has been described. Different approaches of churches and sects to promotion of work ethos among their followers have been shown. Tendencies of radical left-wing, as well as right-wing political elites to unfriendly treat churches because of their weak involvement in promotion of engineer ethos has been shown. Positive influence of Judaic traditions on promotion of work ethos has been presented, which resulted in great achievement of Jews in science and technology. Evolution of beliefs of various Christian churches in the direction of active work ethos promotion has been described. Dramatic effects of disregarding promotion of work ethos by Orthodox Church have been indicated. Protestant roots of capitalism and high standard of living in Western Europe and North America have been exposed.
