Power industry in Poland in 2016 ...in the assessments of the year 2015 – what it brought to us and what was left of it

Summary: Presented is the analysis of situation in the Polish power industry against the background of changes in Europe. Attention is paid to the characterisitic features of the power branch in 2015: 1) development of subsidized, uncontrolled and unstable RES; 2) decreasing prices of energy raw materials in the world’s markets; 3) excess amount of power and energy in the European power systems that, coupled with low prices, resulted in the loss of power generation profitability; 4) excessive amount of CO2 allowances with the prospect of even further growth; 5) impairment of capital groups’ assets and also restrictions on access to finance investments in the field of solid fuels power generation; 6) temptation of tightening the EU Energy and Climate Policy after the COP-21 Climate Change Conference. Mentioned are also disparities existing between media declarations of politicians in the aspect of the EU Climate and Energy Policy and the realities resulting from the adopted or being prepared European Commission regulations.
