Summary: The paper presents the areas of activity of the EMAG Institute of Innovative Technologies in terms of broadly defined security. The works conducted by the EMAG Institute are related to, among others, with the power supply equipment, switching-protection systems, switchgear apparatus, control and supervision systems, monitoring systems, adjustable drives and computer-aided applications supporting processes and also equipment and systems. The selected solutions that are briefly described in the paper were implemented in recent years as a result of research work carried out by the EMAG Institute in cooperation with the external partners, in relation to the three pillars of the Institute and the structure of objects: hardware, software and technology for broadly understood security. The issues related to the design solutions according to the requirements LVD, EMC, ATEX Directives are highlighted in the paper. Moreover the influential impact of multivariate laboratory tests is also highlighted because of their increasing influence on the level of safety and reliability. The paper also highlights the important role of the processes of training and staff qualification development. The Presented examples of solutions show the active participation of the EMAG Institute in the works aimed at safety improvement in many aspects.
